Vistani names are some of the most unusual in all of Faerun. They can be difficult to pronounce, and their meanings don’t always make sense. But there are many incredible things you can do with a Vistani name! This blog post will list 101 uses for your Vistani name that may help you understand how it applies to your personality better, or just have fun with it!

101 Unusual Uses of Vistani Names

-Make your own name on a new character sheet by rolling dice and combining the results with different letters. If you’re feeling adventurous, try using a d100 instead!

-List out all possible combinations for names from two families in order to find matching names (brother/sister, aunt/uncle) for NPCs or children in games. If necessary, roll randomly to pick between family members that share similar first letter(s). Family members can be real life relatives or characters created just for this exercise. For example: John Smith + Jane Doe = Johnny Jones & Janie Smith; Harry Potter + Luna Lovegood = Horace Pottlepotter & Lulu Hoggwarts.

-Write alternate names for your characters, either as a temporary name or an addition to their backstory. For example: John Smith becomes Johnny Jones & Janie Smith; Harry Potter becomes Horace Pottlepotter & Lulu Hoggwarts.

-Assemble the line up of heroes before you start playing! It can be helpful to list out all possible combinations of player character’s names in order to find matching ones (brother/sister, aunt/uncle) and then have one person roll randomly between family members that share similar first letter(s). Family members can be real life relatives or characters created just for this exercise – it doesn’t matter what they are! For example: Ingrid Snow + Rory Frost = Irena Rorik, or Ingrid Snow + Raoul Frost = Isabella Row.

-Find the perfect secret code name for your protagonist! You can use verbs and nouns from various languages to get creative with names like: étel (Hungarian) – eat; volar (Romansh) – fly; patoñeru (Galician) – jump; ignisia/igniábilis/ignitabilis (“Latin”) – light up. Use alliteration with words that start similarly in English such as “light” and “life.” For example: Lina Lightning, Freddie Flameboy, Sid Skinnerly.

-Pick one of these Vistani names & use it as the title of your next short story, book chapter, or blog post.

-Name a magical creature for each letter of the alphabet with these Vistani names! You can use one name just once and then pick another word to start with that starts similarly in English such as “light” (as above), or you could scramble them up more randomly like so: étel + volar = tavola; ignisia/igniábilis/ignitabilis + patoñeru = pirpiz

-Create words by combining different languages together with vistani names spelled out phonetically. For example: pòté – porteau’nepa’tsè.
