There are a number of situations that occur in business that happen so fast that we don’t even stop to think about what we’re doing. But there are some that are slow-paced and we can’t help but think about them, because they are the ones we are the most conscious of at the time.
One of the most-infamous examples of this is the so-called “business transaction” or “commission”. This is a very rare exception to the rule and can be very frustrating. A common example of a transaction that happens in business is the negotiation of a price or payment. If you need to pay someone a sum of money, the usual way we do it is by talking about it.
A lot of people get very nervous about negotiating because they think that it’s not the right way to do business. But with the right amount of preparation and thought, it’s actually a very productive way to pay someone. The problem is that if we think about a transaction too much, the results can end up being just as stressful and frustrating as the negotiation itself.
The problem here is that most people don’t negotiate in a rational way. There are so many different things that can go wrong, and not very many people are prepared for that. The idea that we are all trying to get things done without all of the messy details is called procrastination, and it’s a bad thing. It’s a bad habit that we are all guilty of.
The other problem is that this tendency of people to procrastinate and get things done without thinking about things can be a slippery slope. When you start to procrastinate, you start to doubt yourself and your ability to do whatever you set out to do. After all, there are so many things that go wrong in business that you would think that it would be more important to get things done, and that is a bad thing.
Sometimes that means you actually do things you don’t think you can do. One of my favorite stories is from a year ago when I was trying to get a mortgage for my house. I was a contractor and trying to get the right quotes and all I was doing was procrastinating. I was afraid that every time I started a new project I would lose a day or two and I would be out of money.
You know what? I think this is especially true for people who work in the construction industry. Construction is a big industry and there is a lot of pressure to get things done. You have to get the bids together so you can make a bid on the next job. Contractors have a lot of time on their hands. They have to be able to turn on a dime and do something else.
Contractors often get a little antsy when they don’t have a lot of money to spend. I don’t know what the heck happened to these contractors when they started doing business as they saw it.
If you are a contractor, then you will definitely have stress because there is a lot of time on your hands. That time can include bid-processing time (which is very stressful), time spent on doing things that don’t matter (which is a little stressful), and time that is wasted trying to do the right thing (which is very stressful).
The problem is that most of us are not contractors. In fact, the vast majority of us work for other people. That said, the vast majority of us are on autopilot. That is why we often find ourselves doing the same thing over and over again. It’s probably not the most efficient method of doing business, but it’s certainly a lot easier than dealing with the stress that comes with having a lot of money.
